# Permission Settings

User **access to Promotion Engine functionalities** can be managed through [Role Management](/engine/docs/roles) in the Loyalty Engine settings. Permissions can be set to view or update specific areas, ensuring secure and flexible access control.

## Configuring permissions

- Go to **Loyalty Engine** settings → [**Roles**](/engine/docs/roles).
- Either:
  - [**Edit**](/engine/docs/roles#editing-a-role) an existing role, or
  - [**Create**](/engine/docs/roles#creating-a-new-role) a new role.
- In the **Permission mask,** configure the following options:
  - **Promotions**: Grants general access to the Promotion Engine (View, Update).
  - **Promotion Settings**: Allows viewing and/or editing promotion configuration and general settings (View, Update).
  - **Promotion Calculator**: Access to the calculator functionality (View).

> [!NOTE]
> **View** allows displaying and checking data without making changes, while **Update** includes creating, editing, archiving or deleting items where applicable.

After saving, the permissions apply to all users assigned to the role.
